The «Braunvieh» originated in Central Switzerland.

The tough environmental and husbandry conditions in the alpine region turned the Braunvieh into a robust race, highly appreciated and sought-after both in Switzerland and abroad owing to its rich milk. For centuries, Braunvieh were exported to the adjacent Alpine countries, then from 1869 onwards to the US and other countries all over the world.

By the way, the «Schweizer Original Braunvieh» (OB & ROB) also belongs to the Braunvieh breed. Brown Swiss cows are bred for their milk production within the Braunvieh breed section.
