Grauvieh – A Swiss Cow with a Migartion Background?

The Grauvieh comes from the Central Alps.

The Grauvieh originated in the Central Alps, namely Switzerland and North and South Tyrol. From 1920 onwards, the breed was ousted in Switzerland by the Braunvieh, which yielded greater milk production. However, the breed held on in Tyrol, and its numbers started to increase in Switzerland starting in the 1980s. Even today, the Grauvieh is characterised by its robustness and resilience.
